We were introduced to different methods of rug weaving in this two week course. To experiment and see the various textures created by these techniques, I chose an entirely white palette, to highlight the textures and patterns created. The first sample has all the techniques, such as piling, looping, braiding of different kinds, woven on the loom. This gave me an idea of what kind of techniques I wanted to play around with more.

From the initial sample, I decided to take forward two types of weaves. The first one was a very interesting loops, and I played with the gradation of the loops.
The second weave I took forward was the vertical braiding technique. Here, I made different sections and braided them using various kinds of white wool and yarn. For the base, I used a cotton yarn. I tried to create as many textures and weights as possible using only a single colour.

After weaving the sample, I found an application for the kind of weave I had used. It works really well for a wall hanging to store spatulas and large wooden spoons. It can be hung in the kitchen, and can act as a display piece for lesser used utensils.
