An apparel collection designed for the brand Le Pondichéry, a homegrown boutique and cafe in Pondicherry. Taking inspiration from local crafts and art in Pondi, which is a mix of Tamil and French aesthetics, a mood board and a color palette were created. Ceramics, Local Grafitti, Embroidery, and Painting were interest areas from where visuals were derived.

Earthy, structured, urban, and natural were some of my keywords for this project. It was important that the designs were always in fashion and could be worn both in a semi-casual and a holiday setting.

Being a beach town, crop tops and bikini tops were popular among tourists. To tap into this market, cotton crochet tops were designed, keeping in mind the body types of the users and adjustability. These cotton crochet tops were sampled and produced by working with local craftspeople in Auroville.

Working with the graphic design team, a few T-shirt designs were created, taking Pondicherry as a central theme. The east coast, bougainvilleas, the lighthouse, and local architecture were our main design elements.

Based on the design directions and look boards, sketches of the garments were made, which were further shortlisted. The fabric for the garments was sourced from excess export material, and sampling of the garments was done by a local tailoring unit.
