A freelance project from CiE, a start-up incubation centre located in IIIT Hyderabad. I was assigned three white walls to paint in their lounge and canteen area, which is frequented by start-up employees, IIIT students and Faculty. Since it was common ground that was used for discussions and where people across disciplines met, I wanted to create something that was relevant to the business world.
The first wall had seating spaces against it. Looking at this arrangement, I immediately knew what I wanted to create on this wall. Taking the triangular from of the metal bars on the table, I created a spot light on each of the tables, highlighting the space further.
Once the design was approved and colour-matching the paint, I began painting the wall. Using masking tape and estimation, I mapped out the design on the wall, and proceeded to paint!

The next two walls were placed such that they were almost diagonal to each other. I wanted to create something that was light, maybe revolving around the idea of taking a break. After ideating, I decided to create two matching walls, that would tie the space together.
Arches, windows and rectangles give the illusion of space within the wall. I experimented with three-dimensional structures to create depth. The client wanted quotes of well-known entrepreneurs on these walls. By adding the text to the 3D design, I found that it was a little crowded. By removing the depth, the space became balanced.
Painting these walls was slightly tricky, as it involved a lot of alignment and spacing aspects. There was also colour matching that needed to be modified, in order to work with the space itself. For the text within the arches, the type was printed and cut out, which was then used as stencils for outlining. Each alphabet was placed carefully and filled out with acrylic paint.
