This design project was done by Komal Solanki, Megha Mohan, and me. Each of us began this project by choosing the SDG’s we were interested in and passionate about. We studied them and in context with our personal experiences, we came up with individual inquiries. At a later stage, we collaborated as we realized our inquiries intersect at a common point & that was "Participation of women in public spaces". Moving ahead with the spatial aspects related to our research question, we studied various public spaces in our respective cities and came up with exhibition concepts in resistance to ‘Dominance of patriarchy in public transportation stations’ and how can we subtly introduce ‘A presence’ of women in these spaces.
Individually, we created mind maps based on our personal experiences and came up with sets of questions that we wanted to find answers to regarding the selected SDG.

Based on the commonalities in our mind maps, we discussed directions to work upon & finalized our design brief.

We did a stakeholder mapping through both macro & micro lenses in order to understand the interaction and dynamics of all the people involved in the system.

Each of us spent a day out in our respective cities, observing the activities in our nearby mobility-related public spaces. Metro stations became our focal space and human movement was studied.

Looking at the metro stations as a space in context to the nine elements of space-making, we discovered design opportunities within these elements.

Within the metro stations, we finalized 3 spaces of opportunity:
Security check | Staircase & Elevators | Waiting area

Initial Idea Sketches

Refined sketches for the final output

Design outputs for the selected spaces

A SWOT Analysis was conducted to understand the impact of our design outputs, and how it can be taken forward in real life.
